Rheumatology Care in Hamilton

Fellowship-Trained Rheumatology Care in Hamilton

Persistent joint, bone, muscle, or immune-related symptoms can make it difficult to know where to turn. At our Hamilton office, we work with patients to identify possible causes and develop a medically guided care plan. Every physician at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates has completed fellowship training in rheumatology and is board-certified or board-eligible.

We diagnose, treat, and medically manage arthritis, osteoporosis, and inflammatory and autoimmune disorders that cause musculoskeletal pain and joint inflammation. We welcome patients seeking an initial evaluation, a second opinion, an updated assessment of a known condition, or ongoing disease management.

When to See a Rheumatologist in Hamilton

Persistent joint pain, swelling, stiffness, reduced range of motion, or recurring symptoms may warrant an assessment beyond routine primary care. Our rheumatologists evaluate disorders involving the joints, bones, muscles, and immune system, including symptoms that affect several areas or may be related to systemic disease.

An evaluation may include a review of your medical history, a physical examination, laboratory testing, imaging, and a discussion of how your symptoms affect daily life. We use those findings to assess whether an inflammatory, autoimmune, degenerative, or bone-related condition may be contributing to your symptoms.

Meet the Physicians at Our Hamilton Township Office

Neha Patel, M.D., Priya Chokshi, M.D., and Emily Purcell, M.D., see patients at our Hamilton Township location. They explain diagnoses, test findings, treatment options, and next steps clearly, giving you the information needed to make informed decisions about your care.

We also share relevant records and findings with referring and primary care physicians, keeping your care consistent when several providers are involved.

Conditions Affecting Joints, Bone Health, & the Immune System

Rheumatologic symptoms don’t always point to a single diagnosis. We evaluate conditions that can affect the joints, connective tissue, tendons, soft tissue, bones, and immune system.

Conditions we diagnose and medically manage include:

  • Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis
  • Lupus, scleroderma, and Sjögren’s syndrome
  • Gout and pseudogout
  • Vasculitis and polymyalgia rheumatica
  • Osteoporosis
  • Tendinitis and bursitis

Because similar symptoms can have different causes, care begins with an appropriate diagnostic assessment. We tailor each plan to your diagnosis, medical history, medications, symptoms, and clinical needs.

Testing, Treatment, & Long-Term Monitoring

We provide care from the initial diagnostic workup through treatment and ongoing monitoring. Depending on our clinical assessment, your plan may include blood panels, imaging, prescription medications, therapeutic injections, infusion therapy, or periodic evaluation of disease activity and treatment response.

In-Office Diagnostic Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound produces real-time images of joints, tendons, and soft tissue without radiation. At Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates, physicians trained in rheumatology interpret the scans rather than general radiologists.

Medication & Injection Management

We provide prescription medication management and therapeutic injections when medically appropriate. Medication selection and monitoring depend on your diagnosis, other health conditions, current prescriptions, and response to treatment.

Biologic Infusion Therapy

Our IDYLLIC Infusion Treatment Centers provide physician-supervised biologic infusions within our offices, without requiring a hospital stay. Advanced therapies may involve a clinical eligibility review, laboratory monitoring, prior authorization, and coordination with your insurance plan.

Ongoing Disease Monitoring

Inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune disease can change over time. Follow-up care may include tracking disease activity, reviewing medication response, evaluating side effects, and adjusting your management plan based on current findings.

More Than 50 Years Focused on Rheumatology

Established in 1974, we’re an independent practice devoted to rheumatology. We aren’t a general internal medicine clinic that treats rheumatic disease as a secondary service. Our physicians have completed fellowship training focused on diagnosing and medically managing these conditions.

Our history also includes direct involvement in treatment development. Dr. Mark Fisher served as a clinical investigator in phase 2 and phase 3 trials involving new biologics and rheumatoid arthritis medications. We completed our first in-office infusion treatment in 2001. Across our infusion centers, we have reported completing more than 29,000 infusions for more than 8,000 patients in a single year.

Questions About Your Rheumatology Care

What is rheumatology?
Rheumatology is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating diseases of the joints, bones, muscles, and immune system. Rheumatologists manage conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoporosis, gout, and more than 100 other autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
How is a rheumatologist different from a general practitioner?
After internal medicine residency, rheumatologists complete two to three additional years of fellowship training in diseases of the joints and immune system. Every physician at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates completed this training. A general practitioner does not have this specialized background.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring any prior lab results, imaging studies, or records from your primary care physician or previous specialists. A list of current medications is also helpful. Your physician will review everything before the examination and use it to inform your diagnostic workup.
How does in-office infusion therapy work?
Biologic medications for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are sometimes administered intravenously rather than by pill or injection. Our IDYLLIC Infusion Treatment Centers provide this treatment inside our offices with a medical professional supervising every session, at substantially lower cost than hospital-based infusion.
Is in-office ultrasound the same as radiology imaging?
Diagnostic ultrasound in our offices provides real-time images of joints, tendons, and soft tissue without radiation. Unlike a radiology referral, every scan at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates is interpreted by a physician with specific rheumatology training, so findings are evaluated in the context of your condition, not in isolation.
Do you coordinate with my primary care physician?
Yes. We collaborate closely with referring and primary care physicians, sharing records and findings so your care stays consistent across providers. You won't need to repeat your history or serve as the messenger between offices.
