Diagnostic Ultrasound Services in New Jersey
Real-Time Joint Imaging Interpreted by Rheumatology-Trained Physicians for Patients Across South & Central Jersey & Philadelphia
Most imaging centers route your scan to a radiologist who reads it in isolation, without your lab results, medication history, or exam findings in front of them. At Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates, every diagnostic ultrasound is interpreted by a physician trained specifically in rheumatology.
Our center provides real-time imaging of joints, soft tissues, tendons, and bursae without radiation. When findings point toward a next step, such as a medication adjustment, an ultrasound-guided injection, or a further workup, those decisions can often be made during the same visit. We’ve practiced as an independent rheumatology group since 1974, and decades of experience with musculoskeletal and autoimmune disease inform every scan we perform. In-house ultrasounds are just one of the many services we offer to treat a variety of conditions.

What Our Ultrasound Center Can Evaluate
Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) visualizes structures that X-rays can’t. Bone shows up on X-ray; soft tissue, fluid, and active inflammation do not. Our center images joints, tendons, ligaments, soft tissue, and bursae in real time, giving our physicians a dynamic view of structures that may look normal on conventional imaging but reveal pathology under live examination.
Power Doppler imaging adds another layer of diagnostic information. By detecting blood flow associated with active synovitis, power Doppler helps distinguish inflammation that’s currently active from structural damage that has already occurred. This distinction matters when deciding whether to adjust treatment or hold course.
Our ultrasounds can evaluate:
- Rheumatoid arthritis disease monitoring and progression tracking
- Gout and CPPD with crystal deposition detection
- Psoriatic arthritis with enthesis and joint involvement
- Tendinitis and bursitis, including rotator cuff pathology
- Joint effusion, synovitis, and soft tissue abnormalities
- Bony erosion detection in inflammatory arthritis
Ultrasound also supports therapeutic procedures. Ultrasound-guided injections confirm needle position in real time before medication is delivered, which can improve accuracy compared to landmark-based techniques. Both diagnostic scanning and guided injection services are available within our practice, so patients don’t need to travel to separate facilities for connected procedures.
The Next Steps Start Right Away
Because we’re an independent rheumatology practice rather than a hospital system, imaging and clinical decision-making stay under one roof. When ultrasound findings indicate a next step, that step can often happen in the same visit rather than waiting for a report to travel between providers.
We work with most major insurance plans and help identify copay assistance options when they’re available. We also coordinate closely with referring physicians, sharing records and findings so your care stays consistent across providers. We welcome new patients, offer second opinions, and can provide updated assessments of conditions already in progress, wherever you are in your diagnosis or treatment.
