IV Therapy in New Jersey

Physician-Supervised Specialty Infusion Care Since 2001

At Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates, we provide prescribed biologic and specialty IV infusion therapy through our IDYLLIC Infusion Treatment Centers. Every physician in our independent rheumatology practice has completed fellowship training in rheumatology and is board-certified or board-eligible.

We completed our first in-office infusion treatment in 2001. Today, our seven New Jersey centers provide outpatient care for people managing autoimmune, inflammatory, rheumatic, and bone conditions. In one year, these centers completed more than 29,000 treatments. Our practice has served patients since 1974. We bring decades of rheumatology experience to every evaluation and treatment plan.

How Specialty IV Therapy Differs from Vitamin Drips

IV therapy is a route for administering medication, not a diagnosis or treatment plan by itself. Specialty IV therapy delivers prescribed medication through a vein under clinical supervision. Some medications are administered by injection instead. The ordering physician determines the medication, dose, schedule, and route based on the diagnosis, medical history, previous treatment, and response to therapy.

For people comparing IV vitamin therapy in New Jersey, it’s important to understand that our services aren’t an elective menu of hydration or wellness vitamin drips. We administer prescribed biologic, osteoporosis, and other specialty medications as part of a defined treatment plan. Because these treatments aren’t appropriate for every patient or condition, an evaluation or physician referral is required before care begins.

Conditions That May Be Treated with Infusion or Injection Therapy

Infusion or injection therapy may be one part of a broader plan for autoimmune conditions, inflammatory diseases, and disorders affecting the bones or joints. When evaluating rheumatology patients, we consider their diagnosis, treatment history, laboratory findings, imaging, and other relevant medical information.

Conditions associated with available specialty treatments include:

For osteoporosis, a care plan may include calcium and vitamin D supplementation, prescription medication, physical therapy, or infusion treatment when clinically appropriate. The recommended combination depends on each patient’s diagnosis and medical requirements.

What to Expect at an Outpatient Infusion Center

Our IDYLLIC team works directly with the ordering physician to coordinate the medication order and treatment plan. A referral is required, whether the order comes from one of our rheumatologists or another treating physician.

The process may include:

  • Referral Coordination: We communicate with the ordering physician and review the prescribed treatment plan.
  • Insurance Authorization: We manage required prior authorization and help patients identify available copay assistance programs.
  • Cost Review: We discuss expected costs and insurance coverage before treatment.
  • Clinical Supervision: A supervising healthcare provider is assigned to every infusion and remains on-site throughout treatment.
  • Infusion Monitoring: We monitor patient comfort and watch for possible reactions while they receive the prescribed medication.

Before treatment, our team reviews the medication order, relevant medical history, and safety information. Treatment time varies by medication and protocol. Our office-based centers offer an alternative to hospital infusion departments and may provide substantially lower costs, depending on the prescribed treatment and insurance coverage. Authorization decisions, copay eligibility, and patient responsibility also vary by medication and health plan.

How to Begin Specialty IV Therapy in New Jersey

Your first step depends on whether you already have a diagnosis and medication order. If you need an initial evaluation, updated assessment, or second opinion, we can arrange a rheumatology appointment. If another physician has prescribed treatment, that provider can coordinate the referral and medication order with our IDYLLIC team.

Bring any requested medication information, previous treatment records, and recent laboratory or imaging results to your evaluation. We encourage you to ask why a medication is recommended, how it’s administered, what monitoring is involved, and which insurance requirements apply. Clear answers can help you understand how the prescribed treatment fits into your broader care plan.

Questions About Your Rheumatology Care

What is rheumatology?
Rheumatology is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating diseases of the joints, bones, muscles, and immune system. Rheumatologists manage conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoporosis, gout, and more than 100 other autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.
How is a rheumatologist different from a general practitioner?
After internal medicine residency, rheumatologists complete two to three additional years of fellowship training in diseases of the joints and immune system. Every physician at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates completed this training. A general practitioner does not have this specialized background.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring any prior lab results, imaging studies, or records from your primary care physician or previous specialists. A list of current medications is also helpful. Your physician will review everything before the examination and use it to inform your diagnostic workup.
How does in-office infusion therapy work?
Biologic medications for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are sometimes administered intravenously rather than by pill or injection. Our IDYLLIC Infusion Treatment Centers provide this treatment inside our offices with a medical professional supervising every session, at substantially lower cost than hospital-based infusion.
Is in-office ultrasound the same as radiology imaging?
Diagnostic ultrasound in our offices provides real-time images of joints, tendons, and soft tissue without radiation. Unlike a radiology referral, every scan at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates is interpreted by a physician with specific rheumatology training, so findings are evaluated in the context of your condition, not in isolation.
Do you coordinate with my primary care physician?
Yes. We collaborate closely with referring and primary care physicians, sharing records and findings so your care stays consistent across providers. You won't need to repeat your history or serve as the messenger between offices.
