JUVÉDERM® New Jersey Information
What New Jersey Patients Should Know About JUVÉDERM®
JUVÉDERM® is a collection of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers designed to temporarily add volume, improve facial contours, or soften certain wrinkles and folds. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin and other body tissues, but each filler formulation has its own approved uses, limitations, and eligibility requirements.
Our confirmed clinical scope at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates is rheumatology. We diagnose and manage arthritis, osteoporosis, and inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. This page provides general medical information and doesn’t confirm that we offer cosmetic filler treatment. Before scheduling, prospective patients should verify a treating practice’s current services directly.
Call (856) 424-5005 to ask whether your concern belongs with our rheumatology team or should be evaluated by a cosmetic filler provider.
Treatment Areas & Choosing the Right Formulation
Approved uses within the JUVÉDERM® collection vary by formulation. Depending on the product, they may include selected treatment of the cheeks, chin, temples, jawline, lips, undereye hollows, and facial wrinkles or folds. The collection includes VOLUMA XC, VOLUX XC, VOLLURE XC, Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, and VOLBELLA XC. These products aren’t interchangeable because they differ in their approved treatment areas and purposes.
A qualified treating clinician should select the formulation, injection depth, treatment area, and amount only after evaluating the patient’s goals, facial anatomy, medical history, and eligibility. Different parts of the face may require different product characteristics and injection techniques. A consultation should also address facial balance, symmetry, and whether filler is appropriate for the concern.
People commonly consider dermal fillers for:
- Restoring volume in areas affected by facial volume loss
- Softening specified facial wrinkles and folds
- Adding lip volume or defining the lip border
- Enhancing cheek fullness or chin contour
- Defining the jawline or addressing temple hollowing
- Improving the appearance of eligible undereye hollows
Not every concern can or should be addressed with filler. The desired degree of change must be considered alongside facial proportions, product limitations, medical risks, and other available treatment options.
What to Expect Before & After Treatment
Results and duration vary according to the formulation, treatment area, amount injected, and individual factors. Official product information gives different duration estimates for specific formulations and treatment areas, with some describing results that may last approximately one to two years with optimal treatment. A clinician should explain what duration is reasonable for the proposed procedure rather than applying one timeline to every patient.
Temporary reactions may include swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, pain, lumpiness, or discoloration. Numbing methods, follow-up, activity restrictions, and recovery timelines can also vary. Before consenting, patients should receive clear information about expected benefits, limitations, alternatives, aftercare, and potential complications.
Questions to ask during a consultation include:
- Credentials: Who will perform the injections, and what training does that person have in facial anatomy and filler complications?
- Product: Which JUVÉDERM® formulation is recommended, and why is it appropriate for this area?
- Amount: How much product is planned, and what degree of change is realistic?
- Recovery: What reactions, restrictions, aftercare, and follow-up should be expected?
- Complications: How does the provider identify and manage an urgent adverse reaction?
Dermal Filler Injections Are Medical Procedures
The Food and Drug Administration advises patients to treat dermal filler injections as medical procedures, not purely cosmetic services. The most concerning risk is unintended injection into a blood vessel. This can impair blood flow to tissue and cause serious complications, including tissue necrosis, stroke, or blindness. Product-specific contraindications and approved-use limitations must also be reviewed before treatment.
Choose a licensed healthcare provider who understands the selected product, facial anatomy, injection technique, and complication management. During the consultation, disclose allergies, previous filler treatments, medications, bleeding concerns, active skin problems, and other relevant medical history. This information allows the clinician to assess eligibility and discuss risks that may affect the proposed procedure.
Severe pain, unusual skin color changes, vision symptoms, or neurologic symptoms after an injection require prompt medical attention. Patients should know how to contact the treating provider and where to seek urgent care before leaving the appointment.
When to See a Cosmetic Injector or Rheumatologist
A cosmetic filler consultation evaluates facial volume, contours, and aesthetic goals. A rheumatology care evaluation addresses joint inflammation, musculoskeletal pain, osteoporosis, arthritis, and inflammatory or autoimmune disorders. These appointments serve different clinical purposes, so the appropriate next step depends on the symptoms or changes you want evaluated.
Facial contouring, lip volume, or other appearance-based goals should be discussed with a licensed cosmetic provider who offers the selected product. Joint pain, inflammation, reduced mobility, bone health concerns, or symptoms associated with an inflammatory or autoimmune disorder may call for a rheumatology evaluation.
Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates Rheumatology Care
We’ve provided rheumatology care since 1974. Every physician in our practice has completed fellowship training in rheumatology and is board-certified or board-eligible. Our confirmed services include diagnostic testing, therapeutic injections, infusion therapy, medication management, and long-term monitoring. Therapeutic injections used in rheumatology aren’t cosmetic facial fillers.
We accept new patients and second opinions for rheumatic, inflammatory, and bone health concerns. When appropriate, we also share records and findings with referring and primary care physicians to keep care coordinated.
Clarify the Right Next Step for Your Care
If you’re experiencing joint pain, inflammation, osteoporosis, or symptoms of a possible rheumatic condition, we can explain our confirmed services and determine whether a rheumatology appointment is appropriate. If your goal is facial contouring or another cosmetic change, seek a licensed provider whose current services, training, and complication protocols match that purpose.
If you use our contact form after searching for information about scheduling an aesthetic appointment, please note that the form is for questions about our confirmed rheumatology care. Confirm JUVÉDERM® availability, the selected formulation, provider qualifications, and urgent complication procedures directly with the intended cosmetic practice.
